JOE WITH THE NOTES

Joe With The Notes is the name of my newest solo moniker. In 2020 I went through a lot of life changes and self reflection. After a several month dry period without writing any new music, I decided to dive back into learning more music theory.

For seven weeks, I spent each week learning and experimenting with a different mode of the major scale. This exercise opened my eyes to the music theory concepts I had already been subconsciously familiar with, but gave me the blueprints to better utilize them.

I began approaching music from a very organic place. I set out to make music that felt natural and true to myself, rather than attempting to chase any trends or worry about marketability.

FLAVOR RAID

Flavor Raid is a project I began with John Aldridge in 2013. John and I met in 2009 when I first moved to town. We were both waiters at Carrabba’s Italian Grill, and instantly got along with each other due to our shared love of Seinfeld, Star Wars, and high energy progressive music.

John is the bass player for The Black and White Years who had become an Austin favorite, receiving prominent radio play, performing at major festivals, and landing music placement deals in TV and movies.

The sound of Flavor Raid has varied over the years as I’ve followed my favorite trends in electronic dance music such as trap, moombahton, funk and house.

While Flavor Raid is not entirely a comedy band, my attempts at tribute often manifest in a sort of parody, which will be something like a booty bounce anthem about not blocking walk ways, or a heavy funk jam about elbow bumping (yes, I wrote this before the pandemic).

We took a hiatus in 2019 but have slowly been popping back up at private parties and are planning the next move.
